So last week, Big Frank was in town – Frank Bruno that is! A golf tournament had been organised in his name at the North Sound Golf course here in Grand Cayman and I was fortunate enough to have been invited to play in the tournament. I have never really been a boxing fan, I just do not see the sense in two people physically thumping the hell out of each other (by the way, my dad is a a big boxing fan and that was how I knew about big Frank in my younger days).
Anyway, despite my misgivings about the sport, it was actually a great pleasure to meet big Frank. He, obviously is a lot older than when he was in his prime, but what impressed me the most was that he has a sense of level-headidsness about him, he is literally calm, cool and collected and I admire that in any “famous” person. One enthusiastic fan asked him to pose for a photo with his fists up and he simply said ” I don’t do that anymore (referring to his boxing days), I cannot even remember how to throw a punch”. But on seeing the disappointment on the fan’s face, he immediately put up both fists for the photo take with the fan.
Frank did not play in the tournament, but he was easily accessible to all the golfers present at the tournament, no airs and graces, just someone who happened to be famous attending an event.
