The Cayman Islands are apparently ranked the fifth largest financial centre in the world behind London, Tokyo, New York and Frankfurt. No surprise then, that the majority of high-flying jobs involve banking, insurance, fund administration, legal and financial accounting. However because there is a huge demand for all sorts of skills across various industries on the islands, virtually anyone who has a particular skill set and can speak English should be able to land a job in the Cayman Islands. The fact that there are 101 different nationalities residing on these small islands indicates that expatriates come to the Cayman Islands from all corners of the world. Part of the attraction of working in the Cayman Islands is that there is no individual income tax, company or corporation tax, inheritance tax, capital gains or gift tax in the Cayman Islands. Similarly there are no property taxes or rates, and no controls on the foreign ownership of property and land.
The Cayman Islands are a perfect combination of American conveniences and Caribbean charm and they are ranked as having the seventh highest GDP per capita in the world, Cayman also enjoys one of the highest standards of living in the Caribbean.
A good source of jobs that are available in the Cayman Islands that are not related to the Financial services sector is a website called Cayman Jobs. On this site they advertise for candidates in IT, construction, administration and teaching. You must however remember that there are strict immigration policies in place in order to restrict entry into Cayman Islands and even if you have the relevant skillset and a job offer, you or your prospective employers still need to satisfy the Immigration department that the job cannot be done by a Caymanian.
If you are in the Legal or Financial Administration sector, and are highly qualified you will probably find it easier to land a dream job in Cayman Islands. Most employers in the Cayman Islands are not averse to hiring professionals after two or three telephonic interviews, I certainly had never seen my prospective employer until I landed at the airport in Grand Cayman and my new boss was waiting for me at arrivals. So distance should not put you off chasing your dream job.
